MANILA, Philippines – Former Agriculture undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc-Joc” Bolante is still in St. Luke’s Medical Center, a hospital official assured Sunday.
St. Luke’s spokesperson Marilen Lagniton gave the assurance following rumors that the controversial former government official had sneaked out of the facility.
“Hindi ko alam san nakukuha yang mga yan… Naandun sya (Bolante) sa ospital at madami pang tests sa kanya… Besides, naandun ang senate security na nagbabantay sa kanya,” Lagniton said.
(“I don’t know where that rumor came from. Bolante’s still in St. Luke’s where he’s scheduled to undergo more tests. The Senate security is there guarding him.”)
Bolante, the alleged architect in the P728-million fertilizer fund scam, has been staying in St. Luke’s since his arrival in the country last Tuesday night.
Senate President Manny Villar said the arrest warrant issued on Bolante in the 13th Congress is still effective.
Bolante flew to the United States in 2005 to escape a Senate inquiry on the fertilizer fund scam issue. He however denied this, saying his reason for going to the US was to escape the threats against his life.
Bolante is currently confined in a “large private room” at the St. Luke’s second floor. – with Sophia Dedace, GMANews.TV
