MANILA, Philippines – Storm signals remain in effect over several provinces in northern Luzon even as typhoon “Igme” (international codename Fung-Wong) crossed Taiwan and continues on its path towards southeast China.
In its 5 p.m. advisory, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said 12 areas remain under storm signals 1 and 2, as typhoon “Igme” continues to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing rains over Luzon and western Visayas.
Under Storm Signal No. 2 are the following:
• Batanes Group of Islands,
• Calayan Group of Islands and
• Babuyan Group of Islands.
Under Storm Signal No. 1 are:
• Ilocos Norte,
• Ilocos Sur,
• Mt. Province,
• La Union,
• Zambales, and
In its advisory, Pagasa advised residents along the coastal areas under Storm Signal No. 2 against big waves and storm surges generated by the typhoon. It also advised residents in low-lying areas and near mountain slopes to take all the necessary precautions against possible flashfloods and landslides.
As of 4 p.m., “Igme” has already crossed Taiwan and continues to move towards southeastern China.
Pagasa said the typhoon was moving northwest at 17 kilometers per hour and is expected to be 760 kms northwest of Basco, Batanes or 400 kms northwest of Taipei, Taiwan by Tuesday afternoon. – GMANews.TV
