Another honest cabbie earned praise Thursday for returning some P31,000 in cash to a seaman who left the money inside his taxicab earlier this week.Primitivo Salo, a driver for Manalili taxi, and his wife returned a wallet containing P3,000 and more than P28,000 in dollar bills to seaman Earl Jose Fredeluces at radio station dzBB.
“Hindi ko alam kung anong laman, hindi ko inisip na itago ang pera (I did not bother to find out how much was in the wallet. The thought of keeping the money did not cross my mind),” Salo, a father of four, said when asked if he was tempted to keep the money.
“Pinagusapan namin kung papaano isasauli iyan. Di ko po naisip yan, di namin pera yan eh (We talked about how to return the money. We never thought of keeping it because it is not ours),” Salo’s wife Josephine added.
Salo said Fredeluces hailed his cab at Pasig City and asked to be brought to Greenwoods. Another passenger noticed the wallet on the floor of the cab and pointed it out to him.
For his part, Fredeluces, who arrived in the country from Spain last Monday, gave Salo a reward for his honesty. “Bibigyan ko rin siya ng kaunting halagang pera (I want to give him a token amount),” he said.
Salo also received a Bible for his gesture.
