Convicted rapist Romeo Jalosjos was transported to the Zambonga Penal Colony Sunday morning, a day after the former Zambonga del Norte congressman walked out of the National Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City and flew to Dapitan City.
Director General Avelino Razon Jr, chief of the Philippine National Police, said Jalosjos, who was escorted by police, left Dapitan City at 5 a.m. and was expected to reach Zamboanga City at 11 a.m.
“Ite-turnover siya pagdating sa Zamboanga City sa Zamboanga Penal Colony (Upon arrival in Zamboanga City he will be turned over to the Zamboanga Penal Colony),” Razon said in an interview on dzMM radio.
He said it was up to Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez to file any new case against Jalosjos for walking out of the NBP.
Razon also said the arrest of Jalosjos was justified because his release order had been “nullified” by the Department of Justice.
“Ang release order na ito nullified ni Sec. Gonzalez. So naging null and void ‘yan. Technically, siya ay escaped felon (Gonalez nullified the release order so the release is null and void. Technically, Jalosjos is considered an escaped felon),” he said.
Citing reports reaching him, Razon said police served an arrest warrant on Jalosjos while he was speaking before supporters near the city hall in Dapitan.
He said Jalosjos did not resist arrest. “Nang siya pinaliwanagan ano ang nangyari, sumama siya (When police explained the circumstances to him he did not resist),” he said.
