Veteran actor Ace Vergel, who earned the reputation as the “Bad Boy of Philippine movies,” died after suffering a heart attack before dawn Saturday.
Radio dzXL reported that Vergel, Ace York Aguilar in real life, suffered cardiac arrest and died at about 3 a.m. He was 55.
The actor’s last “brush” with the law took place last August, when police served a warrant for his arrest in Caloocan City for supposed rape cases lodged against him in 2000.
But he was eventually released after police learned the warrant had been lifted.
It was reported that Vergel was also linked to illegal drugs, but the charges against him were dismissed.
Vergel was born to a family of actors on Jan. 22, 1952. He was the son of actress Alicia Vergel, and actor Cesar Ramirez, and the brother of actress Beverly Vergel.
He made his first movie at age 7 where he played the friend of a giant bird in the 1959 film “Anak ng Bulkan” starring the late Fernando Poe Jr and Edna Luna.
