Through a technical knockout, Filipino-American boxer Nonito Donaire Jr retained his IBF-IBO (International Boxing Federation-International Boxing Organization) title in his bout with Mexican Luis Maldonado in Connecticut, USA on Sunday.
Donaire’s victory came during the 8th round when the referee halted the match, saving Maldonado from further pain, which he suffered during the 7th round when he was knocked down by the “Filipino Flash.”
“I want everybody to know that it’s a record, it was something I’ve always looked for. I would like to thank everybody in the Philippines. Thank you guys, I love you guys,” Donaire said after winning the match.
Donaire who was born in General Santos City, resides in San Leandro, California with his family. On July 31, Donaire met President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo after he won the IBF flyweight title by knocking out Armenian Vic Darchinyan in round 5. – GMANews.TV
